Add the Alerts in trouble card to your dashboard

The Alerts in trouble card lists the Grafana alert rules that fire, are in error or get no data, the oldest first, on My Dashboards.

Before you start

The Grafana integration is added: the card reads Grafana with its token. Your license covers Grafana (Premium): see What a license unlocks. Without it, Add a card says Grafana requires the Premium license, with a link Open the license.

➕ Add the card

  1. In the left sidebar, click My Dashboards, then the tab of the dashboard you want.

  2. Click Add a card, at the top of the page.

  3. In Add a card, choose Source grafana. Key shows Alerts in trouble, with the text Grafana alert rules that fire, are in error or get no data, the oldest first.

  4. Enter a Card Name, for example Alerts, then click Add.

The card shows its name, then No alert in trouble when every rule is fine, with the sentence "No alert rule is firing, in error or without data for the components of the catalog (grafana/alert-label-selector annotation)."

What it lists

The alert rules designated by the grafana/alert-label-selector annotation of every component of the catalog, whoever owns the component, and only the rules that fire, are in error or get no data. A component without the annotation adds nothing. Two columns, Owner and Mine, say who owns the component and whether it is yours (Mine or Others): to keep only your alerts, filter on Mine and save the filter with the card, see Keep only your rows.

A card with alerts in it was not checked on a live instance: no alert was firing.

🔔 Be told when an alert fires

My account › Notifications has a line Grafana — When an alert is triggered, marked CRITICAL. See Choose your notifications.
