Create a Grafana service account token

Astrolabe reads Grafana with a service account token. The Viewer role is enough: Astrolabe only reads your alerts and dashboards, it never changes anything in Grafana.

You create the token once, in Grafana.

Use a dedicated service account

Create a service account for Astrolabe, for example astrolabe. A service account does not belong to a person, so the token keeps working when someone leaves.

🔑 Create the token​

  1. In Grafana, open the menu, then Administration, then Users and access, then Service accounts.

  2. Click Add service account.

  3. In Display name, enter astrolabe. In Role, choose Viewer.

  4. Click Create.

  5. Click Add service account token, then Generate token.

  6. Copy the token now. Grafana never shows it again.

These steps happen in Grafana. They were not checked on a live instance.
