What a license unlocks

Some plugins need a license, and so does signing in with an outside provider. Administration › Licensing lists them for your instance.

You do it as an administrator.

🔎 See what a license unlocks​

  1. In the left sidebar, at the bottom, click Administration, then, under SECURITY, Licensing.

  2. The Overview tab opens. Under the state of your license, the card What a license unlocks lists each plugin with the license it needs, for example:

    PluginLicense it needs
    GrafanaPremium license
    PolarisPremium license
    LaunchDarklyPremium license

    Its last line is about signing in: Sign-in with an external provider (GitHub, GitLab, Microsoft, Okta…): any license. Without one, only the Astrolabe account can sign in.

Without a license, the line at the top of every page says the same: No license configured., followed by the plugins that cannot be switched on. Its link Configure the license opens this card.

🔌 A plugin your license does not cover​

In Administration › Plugins, its switch is grey and its card shows Requires the Premium license. Click that line: it opens Licensing, where you add your license. Then switch the plugin on: see Turn on a plugin.

⏳ When a license stops covering a plugin​

A plugin that was on, and that the license no longer covers, is switched off within ten minutes:

  • its card in Plugins shows Switched off: the license no longer covers it;
  • Problems shows a line Plugin, with its name and Switched off: the license no longer covers it. Renew the license, then switch it back on in Plugins.

Until it is switched off, the card in Plugins says Not licensed, and Problems shows a line Plugin, with the name of the plugin and Switched on, but the license does not cover it. Click Fix it to open the license screen.

It does not come back on by itself:

  1. Add your new license.
  2. In Administration › Plugins, switch the plugin back on.

Switching it back on once the license is renewed, and the switched-off state itself, were not checked on a live instance.

📊 What Grafana does without a covering license​

Grafana is part of the Premium license. Without a license that covers it:

  • the Monitoring tab is not on the components;
  • the Alerts in trouble card says Your license does not cover Grafana.;
  • Add a card does not offer Grafana as a source;
  • the alerts that Grafana sends by webhook are dropped.
