Configure GitLab sign-in in Astrolabe

You give Astrolabe the Application ID and the Secret of your GitLab application. Then the sign-in page offers GitLab.

You do it once, as an administrator.

Before you start

You need the Application ID and the Secret of the application: see Create the GitLab application.

πŸ”§ Install the GitLab provider

  1. In the left sidebar, at the bottom, click Administration.

  2. Under PLATFORM, click Authentication. The Providers tab opens.

  3. On the GitLab card, click the switch at the top right of the card. The Configure GitLab window opens.

  4. Fill in the form. Each ? next to a label explains the field.

    FieldWhat to enterExample
Application IDThe Application ID of your GitLab application1a2b3c…
    SecretThe secret of that application0123…
GitLab URLLeave empty for gitlab.com. For your own GitLab: its full address with https://.https://gitlab.exemple.com
Callback URLLeave empty: Astrolabe uses <Astrolabe address>/api/auth/gitlab/handler/frame.
  5. Click Install. The instance reloads.

When the page is back, the GitLab card shows its switch on, with a Configure button.

πŸ‘₯ Import the members

Signing in with GitLab only works for an account Astrolabe already knows. You import your GitLab groups and their members into the catalog. This needs a GitLab connection first.

  1. In the left sidebar, under PLATFORM, click Company connections.

  2. On the GitLab card, click Manage. Under Tokens, click Add a token (Β« Ajouter un jeton Β»).

  3. Fill in the name, the GitLab instance host (for example gitlab.exemple.com, without https://) and the GitLab token. Click Test the connection (Β« Tester la connexion Β»), then Add (Β« Ajouter Β»). The instance reloads.

  4. Go to Administration β€Ί Catalog. On the GitLab card, click Configure.

  5. Tick Import GitLab groups and their members. Click Install. The instance reloads.

Then the groups and their members come into the catalog. See Import your GitLab groups.

These screens were checked up to the GitLab card of the catalog; the rest of this section was not checked on a live GitLab.

βœ… That's it!

Next: Sign in with GitLab.

πŸ”Œ Turn GitLab sign-in off

  1. In Administration β€Ί Authentication, click Configure on the GitLab card.

  2. Click Uninstall. The instance reloads, without asking for confirmation.
