Connect your company's Jira (Data Center)

Your company runs its own Jira, at an address like https://jira.example.com. Astrolabe reads it with a personal access token. You do this once, as an Astrolabe administrator.

Is my Jira a Jira Data Center?

Look at the address you open in your browser. It ends in .atlassian.net? That's Jira Cloud: see Connect Jira Cloud. Any other address is your company's own Jira: you are on the right page.

πŸ”‘ 1. Create a personal access token in Jira

No Jira administrator right is needed: the token reads what its owner can see in Jira.

  1. Log in to Jira with the account Astrolabe will read with.
  2. Top right, click your avatar, then Profile.
  3. In the left menu, click Personal Access Tokens.
  4. Click Create token, give it a name (Astrolabe), choose an expiry date, then click Create.
  5. Copy the token as is: Jira shows it only once.
Use a dedicated account

Every Astrolabe user reads the Jira tab of a component through this token. Ask for a Jira account named astrolabe, with access to your teams' projects: Astrolabe keeps working when people leave.

πŸ”Œ 2. Add the Jira Data Center integration

  1. In the left sidebar, at the bottom, click Administration.

  2. Under PLATFORM, click Company connections.

  3. On the Jira Data Center card, click Configure.

  4. Top right, click Add Token.

  5. Fill in the form:

    FieldWhat to enterExample
NameA name of your choiceJira Data Center
Jira URLThe address of your Jira, with https://, the one you open in your browserhttps://jira.example.com
Personal access tokenThe token of step 1, pasted as is

You don't enter your username: the token is enough.

  6. Click Test connection. The form says Connection works: the source accepted the credentials. This step was not checked on a live instance.

  7. Click Add. Astrolabe restarts on its own, in a few seconds.

The token is in the list, with State set to Connected.

βœ… That's it!

Next: Show the Jira tab on a component.
