Create a GitHub token

Astrolabe reads GitHub with a classic personal access token. You need one for the administrator, and each user creates one for their own dashboard cards.

Two tokens, two uses

TokenEntered inReads GitHub for
The administrator'sAdministration › Company connectionsThe GitHub tab, the GitHub releases card and the catalog, the same for everyone
YoursMy Account › My accountsYour dashboard cards. The administrator's token is never used for them.

🔑 Create the token

  1. In GitHub, open Settings › Developer settings › Personal access tokens, then Tokens (classic), and generate a new token.

  2. Tick repo, read:org and, under user, read:user. Pick an expiration date and generate the token. Without read:user, the import of the organization's members and teams fails.

  3. Copy the token as is: a string starting with ghp_, without Bearer in front.

A dedicated account for the administrator's token

Every user reads the GitHub tab through it, and it only sees the repositories of its account. Use an account dedicated to Astrolabe rather than a person's account.

✅ That's it!
