Create a Terraform Cloud API token

Astrolabe reads Terraform Cloud with an API token. The token has the rights of its owner: Astrolabe only sees the workspaces this owner can see, and it only reads them.

You create the token once, in Terraform Cloud.

Use a dedicated user

Create a Terraform Cloud user for Astrolabe and give it read access to the workspaces your components name. Your own token works too, but Astrolabe stops working the day your access ends.

🔑 Create the token

1. In Terraform Cloud, log in with this user.

2. Open User settings, then Tokens.

3. Click Create an API token.

4. Give it a description, for example Astrolabe, then confirm.

5. Copy the token now. Terraform Cloud never shows it again.

These steps happen in Terraform Cloud. They were not checked on a live instance.
