Create a component from a template
A template is a ready-made starting point: a documentation site, a Node.js service, a Python API. You pick one, answer a few questions, and Astrolabe creates the component for you.
Pick a template
- In the left sidebar, click The Foundry.
The Templates tab shows one card per template: its category, its title, its description, its tags and its owner.
- To narrow the list, click Filters (top right). In the panel, click Starred to keep your favorite templates, or pick a value in Categories, Tags or Owner. Click Close.
- On the card of the template you want, click Choose.
Fill in the form
The form is split into steps, shown at the top. Example with the Component Sandbox template, which generates the files of a component without publishing them anywhere: one step, Component Information.
- Fill in:
| Field | What to write | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Component Name | The name of the new component | acme-sandbox |
| Description | A short description | Sandbox for acme |
| Owner | The team or user who owns it. Click the field and pick one | platform-team |
- Click Review. In the table, check your answers. Click Back to change one.
- Click Create.
Astrolabe opens the page of the task and runs its steps: see Follow the creation of a component.
Each template has its own form
The questions, and the steps, change from one template to another. A template with several steps has a Next button between them.
✅ That's it!
