Try Astrolabe for 14 days

ForgeIT e-mailed you a personal trial license. This page starts your own Astrolabe on your computer with it, in one command. The license lasts 14 days, for one user.

You need Docker running on your computer, with 8 GB of memory given to Docker. The image is public: no Docker Hub account is needed.

πŸš€ Start Astrolabe

  1. In the e-mail Votre licence d'essai Astrolabe / Your Astrolabe trial license, copy the command of step 1. It already holds your license key. It looks like this:

    docker run -d --name astrolabe -p 7007:7007 -e ASTROLABE_LICENCE=<your license key> -v astrolabe-data:/app/data forgeitnc/astrolabe:3.1.0
  2. Paste it in a terminal and press Enter.

Docker downloads the image, then prints a long identifier. Allow two to three minutes for Astrolabe to start. The command is complete: no other setting is needed.

  3. Open http://127.0.0.1:7007. Use this address, not localhost: the sign-in compares the address you open with the one Astrolabe knows.

  4. Read the administrator password Astrolabe generated at its first start.

docker logs astrolabe | grep "with this password"

The password is the word right after with this password:. Astrolabe writes it this once only.

  5. In Username, type administrator. In Password, paste the password of step 4, then click SIGN IN.

  6. Astrolabe asks for your own password. Type it in New password and again in Confirm the new password, at least 12 characters, then click SET PASSWORD AND SIGN IN.

βœ… That's it! Go to Configure Astrolabe.

πŸ”€ Use another port or another machine

Astrolabe must know the address you open in your browser. The command of the email gives it http://127.0.0.1:7007. If you change the port, or open Astrolabe from another computer, give it the exact address with -e FRONTEND_BASE_URL=.

  1. Remove the container if it exists. Your data stays in the astrolabe-data volume.

    docker rm -f astrolabe
  2. Run the command of the email again, changing the port and adding the address. Example with port 8080:

    docker run -d --name astrolabe -p 8080:7007 -e FRONTEND_BASE_URL=http://127.0.0.1:8080 -e ASTROLABE_LICENCE=<your licence key> -v astrolabe-data:/app/data forgeitnc/astrolabe:3.1.0

From another computer, put the name or IP address of the machine that runs Docker, for example -e FRONTEND_BASE_URL=http://192.168.1.20:8080.

  3. Open exactly the address of FRONTEND_BASE_URL, here http://127.0.0.1:8080.

πŸ” Change the license

To use another license key, for example when you buy Astrolabe:

  1. Remove the container. Your data stays, because it lives in the astrolabe-data volume.

    docker rm -f astrolabe
  2. Run the command of Start Astrolabe again, with the new key after ASTROLABE_LICENCE=.

πŸ› οΈ Troubleshooting

docker: Error response from daemon: Conflict. The container name "/astrolabe" is already in use. You already started Astrolabe once. Run docker rm -f astrolabe, then paste the command again. Your data stays in the astrolabe-data volume.

Bind for 0.0.0.0:7007 failed: port is already allocated. Another program uses port 7007. Run docker rm -f astrolabe, then follow Use another port or another machine with a free port, for example 8080.

Astrolabe n'a pas pu dΓ©marrer and Impossible de charger la configuration dynamique depuis http://127.0.0.1:7007/…. You opened Astrolabe at another address than the one it knows, most often after changing the port in -p. Follow Use another port or another machine.

docker logs astrolabe | grep "with this password" answers nothing. Astrolabe is still starting: wait a minute and run it again. If it still answers nothing, the password was written at a first start whose volume you have since removed: run docker rm -f astrolabe, then docker volume rm astrolabe-data, then paste the command again. Everything you entered in Astrolabe is lost.
