Turn on Tech Atlas

Tech Atlas is a technology radar: one page that tells everyone which languages, platforms, techniques and tools your company recommends. You turn it on, then you create the rings (the levels of recommendation).

Before you start

You need to be an administrator.

πŸ”Œ Turn on the plugin

  1. In the left sidebar, at the bottom, click Administration.

  2. Under PLATFORM, click Plugins.

  3. On the Tech Atlas card, click the switch at the top right. It turns on at once. Already on? Tech Atlas is on: go to the next step.

Tech Atlas appears in the left sidebar, and in the Administration menu under INTELLIGENCE.

A first discovery starts at once, without you asking: it reads the repositories of your catalog to find the technologies they use. Above the cards of Plugins, the page says Discovery is running: the repositories of your catalog are being read. This page reloads when it is done. Then, in a few seconds, for example Discovery done: 17 repositories read, 10 added, 0 moved. The entries found are in Administration β€Ί Tech Atlas, on the Entries tab. You can run the discovery again there with Run discovery.

β• Create the rings

A new radar has no ring: the list Ring of an entry offers the rings you create here.

  1. In Administration, under INTELLIGENCE, click Tech Atlas, then the Rings tab.

  2. Click Add Ring.

  3. Fill in the form:

    FieldWhat to writeExample
    NameThe name of the ringAdopt
Position (1 = centre)1 is the centre of the radar1

  4. Click Add. Ring created successfully appears.

  5. Repeat for the other rings, for example Trial (2), Assess (3) and Hold (4).

The four quadrants

The radar has exactly four quadrants: Languages & Frameworks, Platforms, Techniques, Tools. They cannot be created or deleted. On the Quadrants tab, you can rename them.

βœ… That's it!

Next: Add entries to the radar.
